It was my desire to contact all of our future guests sometime in the next month or so regarding the status of tourism here in Yellowknife. As you are aware, the global Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on everyone's lives. We have been fortunate here in that our relative isolation has protected us from the devastating effects of the virus. On March 20, 2020, our Territorial government closed our borders to all non-essential travel. This has been strictly enforced at the highway border crossings and the Yellowknife airport. Due in a large part to the actions of our government, we have only had 5 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the entire territory, and not 1 new case in over a month. In the government's frequent updates of their continued enforcement of these measures, they have indicated that they dont foresee opening up the borders to non-essential travelers until Jan 1, 2021. Currently any traveler who visits Yellowknife is required to isolate for 14 days. For that reason, and due to directives issued by the Territorial Chief Medical Officer, our B&B and tour company is effectively closed until Jan 1, 2021.
Once we reopen we will still be able to offer quality accommodations as well continuing with our highly rated Aurora tours. We will in all likelihood however, be changing how we provide that service. For the safety of our guests and our family we will be limiting our accommodations to our 1 bedroom guest suite. It has a private entrance, full kitchen plus private bathroom. This is intended to limit the contact between our family and our guests in order to provide a safe environment for everyone.
Our tours will also change, with an emphasis on conducting private tours for our guests safety and peace of mind.
We will be posting these changes shortly, once we have a better idea of the government's plans on allowing visitors back into Yellowknife. We look forward to being your hosts in the near future.
